On March 3rd we decided to take a drive out to Yamhill County Wine Country.

I had recently gotten a glowing recommendation from a friend regarding Alexana Winery.  Upon arrival,  we were initially impressed by the huge glossy wooden doors that lead into the stately tasting room and winery.  Little did we know that those impressions would be upheld by their wines as well.

2016 Revana Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir – This wine is a reflection of all tat makes up Revana Winery.  The winemaker used 10 clones from 18 different soil types across the 80 acre vineyard to blend this wine.  My initial impressions were of lovely red and dark fruit, superbly balanced textures and acidity and flavors that carried throughout  . . all the way to the finish.  Truly excellent.

2016 West Block Pinot Noir – This blend has more dark fruit in the nose.  Textures are silky and the flavor profile also reflects the nose.  Less of the raspberry or strawberry notes and more currant and cherry.  The structure is a bit more tannic than the Estate, which give it a more elegant feel.

2016 East Block Pinot Noir – Gorgeous nose . . more vibrant and floral.  Wadenswil is a bit more prominent in this one.  Equally as elegant as the West Block . . but so much more structure.  Almost chewy.  And the finish is powerful.

2014 Signature Pinot Noir – Definite red fruit on the nose and floral.  Super soft mid palate with a slight increase in acid.  Tannins are really well integrated, though there is less structure than most of the previous tastes.

2013 LuminousGSMDr. Revana owns some vineyards in Argentina, where the grapes for this GSM are grown.  The nose is like candy, fruit aromas just dance out of the glass.  There is also a slightly herbal aroma, brambles.  The mid palate is silky with solid fruit flavors.  The tannins are well integrated but BOLD.

We were very impressed with the wines from Alexana Winery and will be back to sample again.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”64px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/4″][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]

Sometimes plans have to be fluid . . .

The other recommended winery, Eminent Domain, was undergoing some major remodeling and was closed for the Winter, which we discovered when we arrived on-site and chatted with the owner.  Looking forward to going back later this Spring, cuz the remodeling looks really great.

I called an audible and decided to check out a winery that my wife had been to on a work related wine tour a few years before.  J Christopher Wines is an outstanding reflection of the entire Willamette Valley and the vineyards that produce wonderful Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and (surprisingly) Sauvignon Blanc.

2015 Bieze Vineyard Pinot NoirEola hills – Brilliant ruby color and gorgeous nose.  I even smelled something like sugar cookies or snickerdoodles . . .my faves . . .Mid Palate is soft and nicely balanced.  The structure is superb and the finely textured finish is wonderful.  Going home with one.

2015 Engedi Vineyard Pinot NoirEola Hills – Lighter and more subtle nose, though the dark fruit makes a boisterous appearance on the palate.  This mostly whole-cluster fermented wine has excellent structure and a superb finish.

2015 Medici Vineyard Pinot NoirChehalem Mtn – Mildly earthy aromas blended nicely rich red fruit on the nose as well as the palate.  Soft, silky and elegant structure with a marvelous finish.

2015 Abbey Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir – Dundee Hills – Beautiful fresh aromas of ripe red fruit.  Soft and elegant style similar to the last wine.  Great structure and a superb finish.

2010 Olenik Vineyard Pinot Noir – Chehalem Mtn – Our server provided us with a bonus pour, in order to give us a perspective of the wines that Jay Somers has been creating over the years.  This lovely wine has held up and matured excellently.  The aromas are bright with acidity and red fruit.  The structure is exceptional with a soft, silky mid palate and finish.  Really remarkable wine.

2016 Lia’s Vineyard Chardonnay – A great nose, citrus and peach aromas.  The mid is very silky and develops into a zesty acid finish.

2016 Croft Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc– A rare Willamette Valley grown Sauvignon Blanc.  Aromas are bright with lemons and peaches.  The mid palate is crisp and creamy, a superb structure with a mildly acidic finish that is truly mouth-watering.  One of these is going home with us.

So happy to have visited these wineries today.  I’ve had my eye on them for a while, so being able to experience the wonderful wines they create has been a real treat.  Looking forward to returning.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][dt_fancy_title title=”Photo Gallery” title_align=”left” title_size=”h3″ title_color=”accent”][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ grid_id=”vc_gid:1521143167194-5c150b4c-d229-3″ include=”15357,15355,15293,15323,15311,3138,3119″ css=”.vc_custom_1521143330204{margin-top: 30px !important;}”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
