Pheasant Run Winery – Aurora (Sept 2018)

We got an opportunity to spend some time with good friends, so we met at this very quaint, historic tasting room in downtown Aurora.  “Our tasting room in Historic Aurora is a renovated century-old bank building re-purposed for tasting our wines in the vaults. The cozy place has charm, history and good wines.”  Plenty of interesting stories to be told about this building and the history surrounding it.  If you are interested . . . Pheasant Run Winery

2016 Bank Roll White – A blend of Pinot Gris, Riesling, and Chardonnay

Very pale yellow in color

Light citrus and stone fruit aromas.

Nice texture.  A bit of pear and golden delicious apple on the palate

The finish lingers nicely.  This would be a great choice for spicy foods, or just sitting on the porch.

2016 Sparkling Rose’

Beautiful light ruby in color

Bright aromas of red fruit and flowers

Great mid palate textures and flavors, slightly sweet.

This rose’ was excellent and some went home with us.

2014 Hot Rocks Pinot Noir

Very pale color leaning toward brown.

a bit of mushroom and earth, but not much fruit at all

The “not much fruit” continues on the palate, but it does have loads of spice. . baking and white pepper, with a lingering finish and pretty good texture

Wouldn’t be my choice.

2013 Pegasus Reserve Pinot Noir

Nice ruby color

A bit more fruit than the last one, mostly cherries and still that mushroom and earth.

Flavor profile is very similar to the Hot Rocks as well. . though it’s more bold and the spiciness is more controlled.

Still wouldn’t be my choice

2013 Super Tuscan

Nice ruby color

A surprising aroma of caramel

Super soft mid palate.  Great dark fruit flavors of cherry and plum.  And it finishes nicely with baking spice

I didn’t make any conclusions in my written notes.  I typically love Super Tuscans, so not sure why I didn’t state that here.

NV Bank Robber Red

Garnet in color

A fairly muted blend of Cab Sauv, Merlot and Petit Verdot

I didn’t get much of a difference in fruit . .nothing spectacular.  Warm and a nice texture

For the “namesake” wine it really doesn’t impress

2012 Reserve Merlot

Deep Garnet color

Gorgeous dark and blue fruit aromas

Silky texture, great fruit carry over and a bit more tannin structure with a nice full finish

This was a bonus pour that the owner gave us, and it was the first one I really liked . . .and it was the most expensive on the list . . .

2014 Double Barrel Cab

Deep Garnet color

Beautiful full fruity nose . . . loaded with dark fruit

Silky texture, great dark fruit and slightly spicy

Very nice Cab . . esp for just $35

the list . . .

NV Sweet Emma – Late Harvest

Lemon colored blend of Riesling and Gewürztraminer

A bit of apricot on the nose

Nice fruit mid palate, and not as sweet as you might think.  Quite nice and a great finish

After dinner
