Cubanisimo vineyards

On 9/15/2018 I also visited these two wineries.  Both were recommended by my server at Redhawk.  Not totally sure what to expect, though I have tasted a Pinot Noir from Cubanisimo at another festival.  Should be fun.  Second stop is at Cubanisimo Vineyards . . . .

2017 Rosado de Pinot Noir

Light strawberry color

Crisp and bright floral and mild strawberry aromas

Flavors are mild . . . Flavor profile similar to aromas.  Nice structure.  Finishes dry

“This wine has delicate fruit aromas with a balance of strawberries, kiwi, and a splash of grapefruit. Very well-balanced acidity with a smooth clean, crisp, bright finish.

Made with 100% Estate grown grapes, we leave this wine on the skins for 18 hours to give it the nice slight rose color and refreshing floral tastes. ”

As always, I  want bright fruit on the palate, in particular with an ROSE’ . . . this one is a bit too muted.

2016 Pinot Gris

Very pale straw color

Very light aromas

Typical Gris . .nothing really distinct in flavors.  Tight acidity and a nice texture

“Colors of a light pear and aromas to match. Introducing a cupful of pears, with a touch of pineapple undertones, and a gentle silky crisp finish.

This wine is made from 100% Estate grown grapes. We have a total of 2-acres of Pinot Gris planted on the Estate. Case production continues to grow, reaching about 250 cases this year.”

This would probably be great with spicy or just really flavorful food as it doesn’t have its own distinct flavor profile.  Slightly better than water.

2011 Rumba Pinot Noir

Dark garnet color

Aromas of dried fruit like prunes, raisins,

Flavor profile is fairly muted.  Seems to me like the flavors have gone over.  It is a bit sour also

“Delightful violet nose with a fruity medium bodied mouth feel. Layered with raspberry and cranberry flavors. Has an elegant spicy, white pepper finish.

This wine is made with a blend of our grapes and grapes we get from La Chouette.”

Only 7 years, but to me this Pinot has lost its profile.

2014 Rumba Pinot Noir

Dark garnet color

Good dark fruit aromas

Good structure.  A bit brambly.  Decent fruit and spice . . .the finish is lackluster

“Strawberry, Violet, and Nutmeg aromas. A bowl of blueberry, black berry, & currant flavors with undertones of spice and cedar.

This wine is made with our Estate grown grapes, as well as grapes we get from La Chouette”

I had hopes for this one . . .Oh well.

2013 Estate Pinot Noir

Dark garnet color

Muted nose . . Fruit not evident

Good structure and balance . . but not much fruit.

“A dark cherry nose leads into full body blackberry and cherry flavors. Fades into a smooth, lingering finish.”

Another one . . not impressed

2014 Estate Pinot Noir

Dark garnet color

A bit of red fruit

Flavors are still quite mild, but are a bit more prominent here.  Smoky with a bit of spice . . and a nice finish.

“An elegant aroma with cinnamon, dark cherry and light chocolate undertones. Has a light, lingering finish.”

Finally!!

2015 Estate Pinot Noir

Dark garnet color

More red fruit on the nose . . MUCH more robust than any of the others.

More robust also on the mid palate . . Good structure and a nice texture.  Finishes dry.  Not a great linger.  Fruit is just in hiding . . .

“A beautiful medium bodied wine with moderate tannins, which open with bright berry aromas. Elegantly infused with raspberry, blackberry, and cranberry flavors.

The finish is a nice lingering chocolate raspberry taste. ”

Swing and a MISS!

Well . . . Not at all what I had hoped it would be.  I had tasted the Rumba PN before and thought it was pretty good.  Must have been the 2012 . . .since that one was sold out.  Now I know.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][dt_fancy_title title=”Photo Gallery” title_align=”left” title_size=”h3″ title_color=”accent”][vc_media_grid element_width=”2″ grid_id=”vc_gid:1540840411310-c56b0288-9a61-8″ include=”15164,3151,3138,5,3119″ css=”.vc_custom_1513876882333{margin-top: 30px !important;}”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
