It’s been an enjoyable holiday season of Thanksgiving and Christmas so far and it’s time to review another wine discovery.
I was searching for something new, and inexpensive. I’ve been a fan of many of the Delicato Family Vineyards wine offerings in the past, so when I found Nighthawk Black at my local grocery I just had to give it a try.
My friend Jon Thorsen at The Reverse Wine Snob has taken opportunity several times to write about various versions of “Cardbourdeaux” wines. . . otherwise known as “Box Wines”. There are many on today’s market and the majority are pretty good. I particularly like the Bota series, which this offering falls into.
Nighthawk Black is an inky, full-bodied California dark red blend of Zinfandel, Syrah and Petite Sirah . It lacks the complexity of many of the blends like this that I’ve tried in the past, recently during our Walla Walla trip. However, I believe that the fruity, jammy nature of it will appeal to a vast audience. If you are a fan of smooth Zinfandel with a hint of spice, you will enjoy Bota Nighthawk Black.
